The best HelpHero alternatives for 2026, beyond basic tours
TL;DR
- HelpHero is cheap ($55/mo at 1,000 MAU) and does tours, checklists and hotspots well. It has no knowledge base, help center, announcements or native surveys.
- Best all-in-one: Product Fruits. Tours, Knowledge Base, help center, Newsfeed and Elvin AI from $111/mo (annual billing).
- Cheapest option: Produktly from €19/mo.
- Most analytics: Userpilot.
- Free and open source: Usertour.
- Stay with HelpHero if you're tight on budget and only need basic tours and hotspots.
HelpHero is upfront about what it doesn't do. Its own comparison page says it plainly: "HelpHero has no knowledge base at all." Surveys mean embedding another tool's form, and there's no AI onboarding agent and no native mobile support.
That's fine if tours are all you need. Most teams that search for a HelpHero alternative have hit the next job: a help center inside the app, a "what's new" feed after releases, an NPS survey, or a more capable onboarding tool that branches and adapts.
Below are eight alternatives grouped by the job you need, a table of which tool covers which job on its cheapest plan, and how to move your tours over.
What does HelpHero cost, and what do you get?
HelpHero bills by monthly active users (MAU), with every feature on every plan. Prices below are from HelpHero's pricing page as of October 2026.
Every plan includes unlimited tours, checklists, hotspots and seats, A/B testing and API access, with a 14-day free trial and no credit card. Tour branching works through buttons that jump to a set step or start another tour.
One thing to keep in mind as you grow: if you stay on your plan and go over 120% of your MAU limit, HelpHero says it will "pause your tours until the next billing cycle".
Why teams look for a HelpHero alternative
Because they need a job HelpHero doesn't do. HelpHero's comparison page against Product Fruits lists NPS and surveys as "Embed your survey provider", AI onboarding agent as "No", and native mobile as "Web apps only". There's no knowledge base, help center, announcements feed or feedback widget.
The tours themselves are well liked. HelpHero holds 4.9 on G2, though from a small base of 18 reviews. The gap reviewers raise is the level of polish:
"Tours' window styling isn't the coolest, although you can use your own CSS styles to improve it."
COO, Small-Business · G2
HelpHero doesn’t publish a changelog, and its latest G2 review is from February 2023, so it’s hard to tell from the outside what’s changed recently or what’s coming next. The company stores its data in US regions of Google Cloud, which may also be a concern if data residency matters to you.
HelpHero alternatives at a glance
Which HelpHero alternative covers which job?
This is the table I'd use to shortlist. It shows what each tool includes on its cheapest paid plan, so you can see which jobs cost extra.
The 8 best HelpHero alternatives, grouped by the job you need
1. Product Fruits: all onboarding and in-app communication in one tool
Price: $111/month billed annually at 1,500 MAU ($149 monthly). G2: 4.7. Covers: tours, Flows, checklists, hints, Knowledge Base, help center, Newsfeed, banners, feedback widget, Elvin AI, plus surveys and NPS on the Pro plan.
Full disclosure: this is our product. I put it first for teams leaving HelpHero because it covers every job in the table above. Starter already includes a public Knowledge Base, an in-app help center, the Newsfeed for release notes, banners and the Feedback widget. Elvin AI answers user questions from your own content.
Pro ($187/month billed annually at 1,500 MAU) adds Surveys and NPS, branching Flows that react to what each user does, a private knowledge base, custom events and 10 seats.
Two more differences from HelpHero. If you go over your MAU quota, Product Fruits keeps working for all your users, and customer support reaches out to discuss which plan fits you best. And it's a European vendor with European hosting, SOC 2 Type 2, ISO 27001 and GDPR on every plan.
The catch: Starter caps you at 15 tours, 2 checklists and 3 seats, where HelpHero is unlimited. If you need more than that, compare HelpHero with Pro, not Starter. And if deep product analytics is what you're buying, look at Userpilot.

2. UserGuiding: simple onboarding for startups
Price: $174/month billed annually ($249 monthly) for up to 2,000 MAU and 3 seats. G2: 4.7.
UserGuiding is the other tool here with a knowledge base and a resource center on its entry plan. Starter also includes product updates, one banner, one survey plus NPS, and an AI assistant with 50 resolutions.
The catch: Feature requests, a roadmap and A/B testing are on Growth ($349/month billed annually). If you go over your quota, users stop seeing your guides until you upgrade.

3. Userflow: developer-friendly
Price: $400/month billed annually ($500 monthly) for 1,000 MAU, unlimited seats. G2: 4.8.
Userflow covers surveys, NPS, banners, checklists and a resource center, with US and EU data residency. It doesn't host articles itself: its resource center searches your Zendesk, Freshdesk, HubSpot or Intercom knowledge base. That's a good fit if your help docs already live in a third-party knowledge base. The budget jump from HelpHero is steep. It costs $400/month against HelpHero's $55.
The catch: the AI adoption agent is an add-on at $80/month billed annually, and there's no native mobile support.

4. Userpilot: onboarding plus product analytics
Price: $299/month up to 2,000 MAU, 3 seats. G2: 4.6.
If analytics is the gap you feel in HelpHero, Userpilot is built around it. Starter includes banners, NPS and the Lia AI agent on credits.
The catch: surveys, the resource center and EU hosting start on Growth, from $849/month, and there's no knowledge base on any plan. Native iOS and Android support is a Growth add-on.

5. Jimo: changelog and feedback in one bundle
Price: $429/month billed annually ($536 monthly) for 2,000 MAU, unlimited seats. G2: 4.6.
Jimo's single plan bundles tours, surveys, NPS, banners, a changelog, a resource center, a feedback widget, A/B testing, EU hosting and an AI agent.
The catch: there's no plan under 2,000 MAU, so a small app pays for users it doesn't have. I broke down the pricing in our Jimo alternatives guide.

6. Usertour: open source and self-hosted
Price: free to self-host (MIT license). Cloud from $49/month billed annually ($59 monthly) for 50,000 sessions and 3 seats, with a free tier at 5,000 sessions. G2: no reviews yet.
Usertour includes flows, checklists, surveys and NPS, banners, announcements and a resource center on every tier. If you have developers who'd rather own the stack, it's the cheapest way to get more than HelpHero offers.
The catch: there's no knowledge base, sessions are counted per content view, and self-hosting means your team runs the servers and the upgrades.

7. Produktly: lowest bill with announcements and surveys
Price: €16/month billed annually (€19 monthly) for 2,000 triggers. G2: 4.5 (from only 3 reviews).
Produktly's entry plan includes a changelog, 5 announcements, an NPS widget, 5 micro-surveys and 2 feedback widgets, with data hosted in Frankfurt. There's no knowledge base or resource center.
The catch: it bills by triggers, not MAU. Its FAQ says that if you exceed the quota significantly and don't upgrade, it stops serving the features for the rest of the month.

8. Appcues: native mobile apps
Price: Quote only, historically around $500/mo. The Start plan covers up to 3,000 MAU with 10 experiences. G2: 4.6.
HelpHero is web only. Appcues has SDKs for iOS, Android, React Native, Flutter and Ionic, and every plan includes every experience type: tours, checklists, banners, surveys and Launchpads.
The catch: Launchpads search Zendesk, Freshdesk or Helpjuice, so there's no built-in knowledge base.

Already on Intercom?
HelpHero can deliver tours through Intercom Messenger, so some teams consider moving tours into Intercom itself. Its Proactive Support Plus add-on costs $99/month on top of seats and includes 500 messages, covering product tours, surveys, posts, checklists and news. Every tour shown counts as a message, and Intercom's help center says tours don't work on mobile, including mobile web.
How do you migrate from HelpHero?
Plan to rebuild your tours. HelpHero's own comparison page says "There's no import tool, so flows get rebuilt rather than migrated", and its docs list no tour export.
The order I'd follow:
- List every live tour, checklist and hotspot. Screenshot the content, the targeting and the trigger for each one. That's your rebuild spec.
- Keep HelpHero running until the rebuild is live. Use your renewal date as the deadline.
- Rebuild the highest-traffic content first. Your main onboarding tour and checklist matter more than a hotspot on a settings page.
- Swap the snippet. HelpHero installs with a script tag and a HelpHero.identify call. Replace both with the new tool's snippet and identify call, and pass the same user ID and properties.
- Re-wire your analytics events. If you send HelpHero events to Google Analytics or Mixpanel through HelpHero.on listeners, map them to the new tool's events.
- Test with a real user account, then remove HelpHero.
When is HelpHero still the right choice?
When you're tight on budget and only need basic tours and hotspots. HelpHero starts at $55/month, includes unlimited tours, checklists and seats on every plan. If you don't need a knowledge base, announcements, help center or surveys, I'd stay.
Frequently asked questions
What are the best HelpHero alternatives?
The best HelpHero alternatives depend on the job you need. Product Fruits and UserGuiding add a knowledge base, help center, surveys and announcements to tours. Userflow and Userpilot as well, but the cost is much higher. Usertour is free and open source, Produktly has the lowest paid bill, and Appcues covers native mobile apps.
Which HelpHero alternative has a built-in knowledge base or help center?
Product Fruits and UserGuiding both include a knowledge base and an in-app help center on their entry plans. Product Fruits Starter costs $111/month billed annually at 1,500 MAU, and UserGuiding Starter costs $174/month billed annually for 2,000 MAU. Userflow and Appcues search an external help desk instead. HelpHero has no knowledge base.
Which HelpHero alternative is best for small teams?
Product Fruits is the best HelpHero alternative for small teams that want tours, a knowledge base, a help center and announcements in one tool. Starter costs $111/month billed annually at 1,500 MAU with 3 seats. If you only need tours and want unlimited seats, HelpHero stays cheaper.
How do I migrate from HelpHero? Can I export my tours?
You can't export tours from HelpHero, so plan to rebuild them. HelpHero says it has no import tool, and its docs list no tour export. Screenshot each tour's content and targeting, keep HelpHero live until the rebuild is done, rebuild your highest-traffic tours first, then swap the script tag and HelpHero.identify call for the new snippet.
Does HelpHero have surveys or NPS?
Not natively. HelpHero lets you embed a third-party survey form inside a tour, and its comparison page lists NPS and surveys as "Embed your survey provider". Product Fruits (from Pro), UserGuiding, Userflow, Jimo, Usertour and Produktly all include built-in surveys and NPS.
Does HelpHero support tour branching?
Yes. HelpHero's pricing page lists tour branching on every plan. It works through buttons: a jump button sends the user to a set step, or a button starts another tour. If you want onboarding that branches on what the user did, Product Fruits Flows on Pro react to user behavior and conditions.
What happens if I go over HelpHero's MAU limit?
HelpHero emails you at 100% of your MAU limit. If you stay on your plan and go over 120%, it pauses your tours until the next billing cycle. Product Fruits keeps working for users above the quota, and customer support reaches out to discuss which plan fits you best.
HelpHero vs Product Fruits: which should I choose?
Choose HelpHero if you only need tours, checklists and hotspots, want unlimited seats, and the budget is tight: it costs $55/month at 1,000 MAU. Choose Product Fruits if you want a knowledge base, help center, announcements and an AI agent in one tool, or European hosting. Starter costs $111/month billed annually ($149 monthly) at 1,500 MAU.
The bottom line
HelpHero is a good tours tool at a low price. It just stops at tours. Pick your alternative by the next job you need: a knowledge base and help center (Product Fruits, UserGuiding), analytics (Userpilot) or native mobile (Appcues). Whichever you pick, budget time to rebuild your tours, because they won't export.
Start your 14-day free trial (no credit card), or book a demo and we'll map your existing HelpHero tours to Product Fruits before you commit to anything. Full plan details are on our pricing page.
